Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz to Face Canada in Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinals
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz are scheduled to face Canada in the League ‘A’ quarterfinals of the Concacaf Nations League following the conclusion of group stage play.
Last night, the stage was set as Panama emerged victorious, blanking Guatemala with a resounding 3-0 victory to clinch the top spot in Group ‘A’ with 10 points.
Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago finished in the second spot in the same group, earning 9 points after a high-scoring match against Curacao, which they lost 5-3.
On the other side of the tournament, Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz cemented their supremacy in Group ‘B’ earlier this week.
They secured a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Haiti, winning 3-2 and amassing 10 points.
This triumph placed them three points ahead of second-placed Honduras, who managed a convincing 4-0 win over Cuba.
The Concacaf Nations League employs a system where the top two teams from each group (Group ‘A’ and ‘B’) qualify for the quarterfinals.
They are joined by the four top-ranked national teams in League ‘A’ according to the Concacaf rankings. These rankings comprise Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica.
As per the regulations, Mexico, the top-ranked team in the Concacaf rankings, will face Trinidad, the lowest-ranked group runner-up.
Meanwhile, the United States, ranked second, will square off against Honduras, the highest-ranked team to finish second in their group.
Canada, the third-ranked team, is set to face the Reggae Boyz, who are the lowest-ranked group winner, while Costa Rica, ranked fourth, will take on Panama, the highest-ranked group winner.
The victors of these gripping quarterfinal clashes will secure a coveted spot in the Nations League finals, slated for March 2024, as well as earn the opportunity to participate in the Conmebol Copa America, which is set to take place in the United States.
For the teams that fall short in the quarterfinals, there is still a glimmer of hope. They will have another chance to qualify for the Conmebol Copa America through a play-in tournament in March 2024.
