Jamaica Continues Soaring as a Premier Tourist Destination with 10 Consecutive Quarters of Growth!
Jamaica, continues to shine as a premier tourist destination, marking its 10th consecutive quarter of positive tourism growth.
With the allure of its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, and vibrant hospitality, Jamaica has reported yet another quarter of remarkable progress in the tourism sector.
In the third quarter of 2023, Jamaica welcomed just under 683,000 stopover visitors, demonstrating a robust 5.5 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This remarkable achievement was announced by Jamaica’s Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett, who expressed his enthusiasm for the island’s ongoing success.
“The economic performance figures for the third quarter of the year show that Jamaica continues to shine as a premier destination, with significantly increasing stopover arrivals and earnings,” Minister Bartlett stated proudly.
Tourism earnings for the island during this quarter reached approximately $1 billion, reflecting a substantial 7.3 percent increase from the same period in 2022. This growth pattern in both visitor arrivals and earnings has been consistently strong, making it the 10th consecutive quarter of growth since the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the driving forces behind Jamaica’s impressive tourism growth is the resurgent United Kingdom market, which has consistently outperformed other international source markets, aside from the United States.
“The pattern of growth for this market has been noteworthy, as the UK market continues to outpace other non-American markets,” Minister Bartlett remarked. “Jamaica has now secured its position as the number one Caribbean destination for UK visitors.”
The Jamaica Travel Market tradeshow, held at the end of last month, facilitated partnerships between local businesses and Jamaican resorts, hotels, ground agents, and car rental firms, further strengthening the island’s tourism industry.
Canada is also contributing to Jamaica’s resurgence in tourism. After facing travel restrictions in previous years, Canadian tourists are making a comeback, and Jamaican officials have set their sights on attracting 500,000 annual visitors from Canada by 2025.
“We are excited about Canada and the prospects for improved growth from Canada,” Minister Bartlett declared, emphasizing the island’s commitment to diversifying its tourism sources.
