Cricket West Indies Announces Historic Prize Money Increase for Regional Competitions!
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a substantial increase in prize money and bonuses for teams participating in regional cricket competitions.
These changes, totaling over US$2.5 million over a four-year period, signify a significant boost to the sport and are set to elevate the standard of regional cricket in the West Indies.
The regional super 50 tournament, which commenced yesterday in Trinidad, is at the forefront of this prize money revolution.
The winning team will walk away with a whopping US$100,000 and the prestigious Sir Clive Lloyd trophy when the championship final concludes under the lights at the Brian Lara Academy on November 11.
This staggering sum is the highest in the history of this competition. Furthermore, the losing finalist will also receive a substantial US$50,000, while the team that tops the points table in the league phase will take home an additional US$50,000.
The increase also extends to all senior men’s and women’s tournaments.
The West Indies Championship scheduled for the first half of 2024 will see the champions of the traditional “red ball” four-day, first-class competition rewarded with an impressive US$250,000, and the second-placed team will receive a commendable US$100,000.
For the women’s super 50 cup and the T20 Blaze, there are considerable increases in winnings as well. The winners of the 50-overs competition will receive US$20,000 next year, with a minimum annual increase of US$10,000 over the next four years.
The runners-up in this category will receive half these amounts.
Similarly, the T20 Blaze winners will see an increase of US$10,000 for the champions next year, with further increments annually for the next four years, and the runners-up will receive half of these amounts.
In addition to this, Cricket West Indies is in the final stages of negotiating a new 4-year Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U) with the West Indies Players Association.
This new agreement promises further increases for individual players, including a substantial boost to women’s remuneration. This move aims to create a more equitable and lucrative playing environment for all cricketers in the region.
