Richardson vs Jackson vs Thompson-Herah in Prefontaine Classic This Saturday!
Anticipation continues to mount for the 2023 Prefontaine Classic which will feature the highly awaited women’s 100m final this Saturday.
With an illustrious lineup featuring world champions and Olympic gold medallists, the stakes could not be higher for this thrilling showdown.
The Prefontaine Classic, scheduled for September 16-17, promises to be a spectacle like no other, with diamond trophies and a staggering $30,000 top prize awaiting the victors in the 32 finals.
In what promises to be a clash of sprinting titans, world champion Sha’Carri Richardson of the United States is poised to face off against the world 200m champion, Shericka Jackson of Jamaica, and the formidable two-time Olympic sprint double champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah, also hailing from Jamaica.
Richardson has been in scorching form this season, having won all three of her 100m encounters against Jackson.
The only blip on her record this year came when she was outpaced by collegiate sensation Julien Alfred of St. Lucia. And with her intimate knowledge of Eugene’s favourable sprint conditions, Richardson is primed for an impressive performance.
Both Richardson and Jackson share the same season’s best and personal best times, an impressive 10.65 seconds, setting the stage for an exhilarating face-off.
However, one cannot discount the indomitable Elaine Thompson-Herah. The Jamaican sprint sensation, who holds the Hayward Field stadium record at 10.54 seconds, has visibly shaken off her early-season setbacks and is returning to her peak form.
Thompson-Herah’s recent season-best performance of 10.84 seconds has reignited the belief that she is a serious contender against the frontrunners.
