Richardson 1st, Morrison 2nd, Thompson-Herah 3rd in Women’s 100m at Zurich Diamond League
Sha’Carri Richardson of the United States clinched yet another 100m victory at the Diamond League Zürich Weltkasse 2023 event on Thursday.
A mere week after her pivotal role in guiding the U.S. women’s 4x100m relay team to a gold medal at the esteemed World Championships held in Budapest, Richardson’s prowess remained resolute.
Despite a relatively slower start off the blocks, Richardson swiftly found her rhythm and seamlessly surged ahead through the midpoint of the race.
Crossing the finish line in an impressive 10.88 seconds, she asserted her dominance over her closest competitors.
As the realisation of her triumph dawned upon her, a broad grin illuminated Richardson’s face, capturing the elation of the moment.
In the closely contested battle for the runner-up positions, Jamaica’s Natasha Morrison narrowly edged out her compatriot Elaine Thompson-Herah in a captivating photo-finish.
Both athletes recorded a commendable time of 11.00 seconds.
Reflecting on her journey, Thompson-Herah, who had solely participated in a relay heat during the Budapest World Championships, revealed, “The fact that I didn’t make it to the World Championships in an individual race was hard.
“I wanted to stop the season, but my husband changed my mindset. I am a warrior, this is not about crying, so achieving a season best today is great.”
