Leon Bailey Shines Bright: Scores in Back-to-Back Games For Aston Villa!
On Wednesday Aston Villa secured a resounding 5-0 victory over Hibernian in the first-leg of their Europa Conference League play-off, with Reggae Boyz winger Leon Bailey finding the net for the second consecutive game.
The star of the match was undoubtedly Ollie Watkins, who delivered a stunning hat-trick to propel the visiting team to a dominant position.
Watkins found the back of the net in the 17th, 33rd, and 48th minutes, effectively seizing control of the tie for Villa.
Bailey, not to be outdone, made his mark with a header in the 42nd minute, extending Unai Emery’s side to a comfortable 3-0 lead by halftime.
The icing on the cake came courtesy of Douglas Luiz, who confidently converted a 74th-minute penalty, putting the finishing touches on Villa’s commanding performance.
Just last weekend, Bailey showcased his scoring abilities as Villa trounced Everton 4-0 on their home turf in the West Midlands.
Reflecting on the victory, Emery expressed his satisfaction, highlighting the team’s enthusiasm for their European debut in the Conference League.
The match unfolded at Easter Road, where Watkins opened the scoring by nodding in a well-placed cross from Lucas Digne. He then doubled his tally, once again using his head to convert from close range, solidifying Villa’s lead beyond the half-hour mark.
Bailey joined the scoring frenzy with a header at the back post, capitalising on another precise delivery from Digne. Watkins completed his remarkable hat-trick early in the second half, elegantly finishing off a fluid attacking sequence from six yards out.
Villa’s substitute, Bertrand Traore, made an impact as well. He drew a foul in the box, leading to a penalty opportunity.
Douglas Luiz confidently dispatched the spot-kick, sending goalkeeper David Marshall the wrong way and adding to Villa’s triumph on a remarkable evening.
