JPS to Expand Electric Vehicle Charging Network This Year with Twelve New Stations Island-Wide!

Island’s Leading Energy Company Continues to Foster Electric Vehicle Growth

JPS, the foremost energy company in Jamaica, is gearing up to establish a dozen new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the island in 2023.

Joseph Williams, Senior Vice President of Generation, shared insights into the company’s ambitious vision of ensuring an electric vehicle charging station within a 30-kilometer radius of any motorist. “We have completed the first phase of our plan with the construction of ten charging stations across the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew, St. James, St. Ann, Clarendon, Westmoreland and Portland. And we are now well underway to adding two each in Westmoreland and Clarendon, plus four more in St. Ann, two in Manchester and one in Trelawny. We will also add another charging station to the set in St. Andrew,” he revealed.

The forthcoming JPS Charge ‘n Go EV charging stations will elevate the total count to twenty-two public electric vehicle charging stations operated by JPS.

A number of these advanced stations are a result of fruitful collaborations with gasoline retailers, who graciously host the stations on their premises.

Notable partners thus far include Boots Gas Station, Texaco, and Total.

It’s noteworthy that several of JPS’ charging stations offer some of the swiftest EV charging rates accessible on the island.

“We are demonstrating our commitment to building out the EV charging infrastructure across the island to ensure that Jamaica is prepared for the inevitable growth in EV ownership,” Williams said.

“More and more persons are embracing the EV technology, as they recognise that it is not only good for the environment, but also that it is cheaper to operate an EV, compared to a regular Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicle,” he underscored.

Simplifying the charging process, patrons are able to make cashless transactions.

Aspiring users of JPS charging stations can readily download the ChargeLab App, proceeding through straightforward steps.

Alongside these public charging stations, JPS is concurrently crafting private charging facilities to cater to commercial enterprises and large-scale developments.
