Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls Shine Bright in a Commanding 61-49 Win Over Uganda, Eyeing Semi-Finals at 2023 Netball World Cup

Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls have taken a significant stride towards securing a spot in the semi-finals of the 2023 Netball World Cup in South Africa.

Their commanding 61-49 victory over Uganda in the opening game of the second preliminary stage at the Cape Town International Convention Center on Monday set the stage for their potential success.

Uganda made a strong start, scoring the first two points of the game, but the Sunshine Girls managed to maintain a slim 15-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter witnessed Jamaica picking up the pace, extending their lead to 19-13 within the first three minutes.

  

Dominating the game, they reached a 10-point lead for the first time with 8:00 minutes left in the first half, heading into halftime with a comfortable 38-21 advantage.

Impressively, Jamaica had a flawless offensive performance in the first half, not missing a single shot at the goal.

In the first half, Goal Shooter Jhaniele Fowler showcased her usual brilliance, scoring 28 goals, while Goal Attack Shanice Beckford contributed 10 goals and 12 assists. Wing Attack Khadijah Williams played a crucial role as well, providing 18 assists.

Uganda won the third quarter 16-11, reducing the deficit to 37-49 going into the final quarter. However, the lead built up by Jamaica in the first half proved insurmountable for Uganda, as the game ended with a final score of 61-49 in favour of Jamaica.
