Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls Rise and Shine, Securing Bronze at Netball World Cup!

Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls secured the bronze medal at the Netball World Cup with a fantastic 52-45 victory over New Zealand, delivering the Silver Ferns their worst-ever result in the tournament’s history.

Until Sunday’s play-off loss to the Sunshine Girls, the Silver Ferns had never failed to secure a medal in any World Cup campaign.

This shockingly low outcome comes as a disappointment for coach Dame Noeline Taurua’s team, especially considering their absence from last year’s Commonwealth Games final.

New Zealand had entered the competition as the reigning champions, but their fortunes took a downturn when superstar shooter Grace Nweke suffered an injury during the pool games.

To make matters worse, their injury woes continued during the bronze medal clash against Jamaica when Gina Crampton was forced to leave the court after just a few minutes due to an ankle issue, ruling her out for the rest of the match.

Nonetheless, Jamaica’s defensive duo of Shamera Sterling and Jodi-Ann Ward put up an outstanding performance, combining for seven gains during the match.

Jhaniele Fowler played a crucial role, scoring 43 goals with an impressive 98% accuracy, leading the Sunshine Girls to claim the well-deserved victory.

On the other hand, the Silver Ferns struggled to find their scoring rhythm, with no shooter reaching the 20-goal mark. Maia Wilson emerged as the leading scorer for her team with 19 goals in one half of netball.

Overall, the Netball World Cup proved to be an exciting and unpredictable tournament, with Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls shining bright and New Zealand’s Silver Ferns experiencing an unexpected setback due to injuries and tough competition.

Australia defeated England 61-45 to win the final.
