Antonio Watson Sprints to Victory, Becomes Second Jamaican Man to Win 400m Gold at World Championships!
At the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Budapest on Thursday, Jamaica’s Antonio Watson secured his first-ever World title in the men’s 400m final.
The 21-year-old athlete displayed exceptional determination, particularly evident in his semifinal where he achieved a remarkable personal best of 44.14 on Tuesday.
In the final race, he executed a strategic approach by pacing himself during the initial 300 meters.
However, it was his explosive burst of speed in the last 100 meters that truly stole the show.
This surge allowed him to surge past Matthew Hudson-Smith of Great Britain, who claimed the second spot with a time of 44.31.
Notably, Quincy Hall from the United States secured the bronze medal, clocking a personal best of 44.37.
Former World Champion from 2011, Kirani James completed the race in 44.52, securing the fifth position.
Meanwhile, Sean Bailey achieved a time of 44.96, earning him the sixth place.
Antonio Watson’s remarkable achievement adds to Jamaica’s medal tally, marking the second 400m gold medal for the nation in the history of the World Championships. The first gold was secured four decades ago by Bert Cameron in Helsinki.
