Underdog Rohan Watson Pulls Off Sensational Victory in Men’s 100m at National Trials!

Rohan Watson of MVP Track Club pulled off a stunning upset in the men’s 100m event at the National Senior and Junior Championships held at the National Stadium on Friday night.

Surprising everyone, Watson emerged as the unexpected winner with an impressive new personal best time of 9.91 seconds.

Ryiem Forde, representing Adidas, secured second place in 9.96 seconds, also a new personal best, while Oblique Seville, a renowned Jamaican sprinter and fourth-place finisher at last year’s World Athletics Championships, settled for third place with a time of 10.00 seconds.

Akeem Blake, who had been the fastest Jamaican male this season with a remarkable 9.89 seconds, could only manage fourth place in 10.01 seconds.

Blake’s performance unfortunately means he will not represent Jamaica in the men’s 100m event at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The National Senior and Junior Championships, which will conclude on Sunday, are currently serving as the Jamaica Trials for various upcoming international competitions.

These championships not only determine the team that will represent Jamaica at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest from August 19 to 27 but also shape the squads for three junior competitions.

These competitions include the NACAC Under-18 and Under-23 Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica (scheduled for July 21-23), the Pan American Under-20 Athletics Championships in Puerto Rico (scheduled for August 4-6), and the Under-18 Commonwealth Youth Games in Port of Spain, Trinidad (scheduled for August 6-9).
