Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson Wins 200m at Monaco Diamond League, Sets Sights on World Athletics Championships!
On Friday night Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson secured a commanding victory in the women’s 200m event at the Monaco Diamond League 2023.
The reigning world champion over 200m made her mark, leaving no room for her competitors to challenge her dominance.
With a swift time of 21.86, Jackson left the packed field trailing behind. Julien Alfred from St. Lucia put up a good fight, but couldn’t catch up to Jackson’s blazing pace, finishing second with a time of 22.08.
Former world champion Dina Asher-Smith secured the third spot, achieving a season’s best time of 22.23.
However, American champion and Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist Gabby Thomas had a tough outing, fading to seventh place with a time of 22.67.
All four remarkable athletes are gearing up to showcase their talents once again at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
Jackson’s victory in Monaco solidified her unbeaten record in the 200m event this season. She had previously showcased her remarkable form at the Jamaican national championships, where her time of 21.71 was second only to Gabby Thomas’ impressive 21.61 at the U.S. nationals on the same day (9th July).
Reflecting on her triumph, Shericka Jackson expressed her delight, especially considering her second-place finish in Monaco last time. She acknowledged the challenge of having three competitions in a week but looked forward to her next event at the London Diamond League.
Throughout the season, her focus has been on herself and staying in her lane, aiming to peak at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
With her exceptional performances, Shericka Jackson has certainly positioned herself as a formidable force to reckon with in the world of track and field, leaving fans eager to witness her shining on the global stage in Budapest.
