Jamaican Athletes Yohan Blake, Briana Williams, and Shanieka Ricketts Triumph in Germany!

Jamaican athletes showcased their prowess at the True Athletes Classics held in Leverkusen, Germany on Saturday.

Yohan Blake, along with fellow Jamaicans Briana Williams and Shanieka Ricketts all won their respective events,.

In the highly anticipated men’s 100m final, 33-year-old Blake matched his season’s best, clocking 10.01 seconds (0.2m/s).

Blake overtook the fast-starting Jeremiah Azu of Great Britain, who had to settle for second place with a time of 10.07.

  

The third spot was claimed by Nigeria’s Seye Ogunlewe, finishing in 10.17 seconds. .

However, the participation of the athlete in the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, remains uncertain following a false start at the Jamaica trials earlier this month.

Briana Williams also impressed in the women’s 100m competition, securing the top spot by crossing the finish line in 11.38 seconds (-0.3m/s). A close contender was Bree Masters from Australia, finishing just behind with a time of 11.39 seconds. Meanwhile, Lisa Marie Kwayie of Germany claimed the third position, completing the race in 11.53 seconds. 

National champion Shanieka Ricketts also impressed in the women’s triple jump. Her second attempt yielded a remarkable jump of 14.52m (-0.4m/s), leaving her competitors trailing far behind.

Such was her commanding performance that any of her four legal jumps would have secured victory. Taking second place was Germany’s Maria Purtsa with a jump of 13.69m (-0.1m/s), while Ricketts’ compatriot Kimberly Williams secured the third position with a jump of 13.58m (-0.5m/s).
