Jamaica’s Unemployment Hits Record Low of 6.2%
According to the most recent data from the Statistical Institute of Jamaica, STATIN, Jamaica’s unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level since the nation began keeping records.
It’s currently at 6.2 percent – which means it’s 2.6 percentage points lower than the figure reported a year earlier.
In January 2021, Jamaica’s unemployment rate was reported as 8.8 per cent.
And the nation’s previous historic low unemployment rate was 7.1 per cent recorded in January 2020.
Worthy of note is that the January 2022 Labour Force Survey shows that fewer people were employed than in the pre-COVID-19 January 2020 period.
The number of people employed fell from 1.269 million then to 1.257 million three months ago.
