Historic! Children Address Parliament On Violence For The First Time Ever In Jamaica
History was made recently in Jamaica when children, for the first time ever addressed the Jamaican House of Representatives in a special session on violence against children.
The session was realised courtesy of a collaboration between UNICEF Jamaica, the Office of the Children’s Advocate (OCA) and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information.
The timing of the session was fitting as it was held on the eve of World Children’s Day and marked the culmination of activities led by UNICEF Jamaica to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The children who spoke were 7-year-old twins Ngozi and Tafari Wright and 10-year-old Keino King.
