Hurricane Irma Sucks Shorelines Dry In The Bahamas
Hurricane Irma has done something that most persons may never see in person.
Unbelievable footage from the Bahamas has surfaced showing shoreline that receded much father than normal following the passage of the powerful cyclone.
On Friday, Twitter user @Kaydi_K from Long Island wrote:
‘I am in disbelief right now… This is Long Island, Bahamas and the ocean water is missing!!! That’s as far as they see #HurricaneIrma.’

Angela Fritz, an atmospheric scientist for the Washington Post notes:
“Basically, Hurricane Irma is so strong and its pressure is so low, it’s sucking water from its surroundings into the core of the storm.”
The disappearing shorelines led many social media users to speculate over the possibility of a tsunami but Fritz also notes ‘This isn’t the sign of a tsunami. The water will return to Long Island, and it probably won’t rush back with any great force. It will probably be back by Sunday afternoon.’
