Over 230,000 Traffic Tickets Issued Up to June 9, 2017
The Ministry of National Security has revealed via a statement that the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Traffic Division issued a total of 233,309 traffic tickets from the beginning of the year to the period ending June 9 2017.
This represents an increase of 40,048 tickets, 21 per cent more when compared to the corresponding period in 2016. Over 8,000 summons were also issued, the police said in a news release.
The JCF in a joint operation with the Island Traffic Authority removed 3,250 registration plates from motor vehicles and trucks; 4,060 motor vehicles operating against the law were seized; and 10,200 persons were prosecuted for illegal tinting of vehicles.
Of the 233,309 tickets that were issued, over 8,800 tickets have been issued for failing to wear seat belts while driving and over 2,300 tickets issued for failing to wear protective helmets while driving a motorcycle.
Over $13 million has been collected from the execution of warrants and over 1,300 persons arrested during traffic enforcement duties.
33,391 spot checks were conducted, stopping 417,000 vehicles and 500,000 persons searched; during these operations, 1,260 offensive weapons were seized.
