Elaine Thompson to Face Schippers Again in May
Jamaica’s Olympic sprint double gold medallist Elaine Thompson will take on Dafne Schippers in the women’s 200m at the Prefontainonce Classic in Eugene, Oregon on May 27.
This marks the first time Thompson, Dafne Schippers, Allyson Felix and Tori Bowie will grace the track in the same race.
Last year, Thompson became the first woman to win Olympic gold in the 100m and 200m at the same Games since 1988.
And her 200m personal best of 21.66 is just 0.02 seconds shy of the Jamaican record set by Merlene Ottey.
She currently shares the Jamaican 100m record of 10.70 with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
Schippers, who earned silver in the 200m behind Thompson in Rio last year, boasts the world’s fastest times already this season with 10.95 in the 100m and 22.29 in the 200m.
The 2017 IAAF Diamond League Series commences on May 5 in Doha, Qatar.
