Muhammad Ali’s Son Detained at US Airport After Returning From Jamaica
Earlier this month, Muhammad Ali Jr, the son of global boxing legend Muhammad Ali was detained for hours by immigration officials at a Florida airport.
The 44-year-old and his mother Khalilah Camacho-Ali, the second wife of Muhammad Ali, were reportedly arriving at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Feb. 7 after visiting Montego Bay when he was held by immigration officers.
Following the detention, Chris Mancini, a former federal prosecutor and a friend of the family stated “this whole thing was triggered by his beliefs, the CBP [US Customs and Border Protection] is profiling.”
“He was only released about two hours later. This is a U.S. citizen, born in Philadelphia. They have no right to inquire into his religion. This is outrageous; what’s going on in this country?” Mancini also reportedly stated.
He also reportedly stated: “I don’t know what is going on with Mr. Trump’s claim that his ban is not religion-based. We do not discriminate in this country based on religion.”
The lawyer also reportedly said that both Ali Jr. and his mother were asked whether they were Muslims.
