Cop Knocked Unconscious By Mentally Ill Man in Trelawny
A police officer was recently knocked unconscious by a man who is said to be mentally ill.
The incident reportedly took place in Clark’s Town, Trelawny on Thursday morning (February 23).
According to the Gleaner, police were reportedly called to the scene after the man snatched a child from his mother against a court ruling.
On seeing the police the man released the child and attacked one of the policemen with a stone.
The mentally ill man was subsequently shot by a another policeman.
Both men were later taken to hospital for treatment.
Close to 108,00 Jamaicans or roughly four percent of the island’s total population reportedly received treatment for some form of mental illness in 2015.
And of that number close to 2,000 spent time in hospitals where they received extensive treatment.
