Cell Phone Use Reportedly Widespread in Clarendon Jail Cells

Cellular phone use by prisoners in Clarendon jail cells is reportedly widespread.

Police in Clarendon recently cited an increased prevalence of attempts by members of the public to smuggle cell phones concealed in food into lockups in the parish.

Once in possession of the communication devices, prisoners are reported to be using the phones to intimidate witnesses and order attacks on persons outside the jails.

Head of the Clarendon Police Division, Superintendent Vendolyn Cameron-Powell, recently disclosed that since January of this year alone, the police have seized more than 20 cell phones from prisoners in lockups across the division.

In an apparent bid to stem the flow of contraband entering the cells, Superintendent  Powell also revealed that police in the parish will be specifically targeting visitors who seek to aid prisoners to have items smuggled into cells.
