Jamaica’s Female Bobsled Team Earns Historic Medal in North American Cup
A Historic Achievement!
Jamaica’s female bobsled team recently earned the island’s first ever medal at the North American Cup Bobsleigh and Skeleton competition.
Brakewoman Carrie Russell and driver Jazmine Fenlator-Victorian claimed the bronze medal at the competition which took place in Lake Placid New York.
And this historic achievement will undoubtedly bolster the team’s confidence as they aim to qualify for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, in 2018
Jamaica finished behind United States and Canada.
Following the incredible accomplishment, a thankful and seemingly elated Carrie Russell made the following statement via Facebook:
“Thank you God for the many opportunities and blessings you have given me this season. Knowing nothing about bobsled when I first started I left my life of track and field to pursue a dream. After months of ups and downs, hours of travel and training tonight me and Jazmine Fenlator have made history winning Jamaica’s first ever medal in bobsled with a bronze finish. Thank you to all my coaches who helped shape the athlete I am, thank you to my family and friends who have kept me grounded in this new transition I couldn’t have done it without any of you and look forward to making more history as a world athlete”
