American Congresswoman With Jamaican Roots Among Legislators to Boycott Trump’s Inauguration
President-elect of the United States Donald Trump is to be inaugurated on January 20, officially taking his place as leader of the free world.
Trump proved to be a very polarising figure during his election campaign and as a result garnered arguably equal amounts of resentment and adoration.
An American Congresswoman with Jamaican roots has now added her name to a growing list of United States Congressional representatives who intend to boycott Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration.
Yvette Clarke is among several Democratic lawmakers who have revealed their intentions to skip the ceremony.
On Saturday, she stated via Twitter:
“I will NOT attend the inauguration of @realDonaldTrump”.
“When you insult @RepJohnLewis, you insult America.”
I will NOT attend the inauguration of @realDonaldTrump. When you insult @repjohnlewis, you insult America.

Her tweet followed an attack by Trump on US civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis, of Georgia.
According to NBCNews, after Rep. John Lewis questioned Trump’s legitimacy during an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Trump dismissed the Big Six leader, who was brutally beaten and repeatedly imprisoned as he protested for voting rights alongside King in 1965, as “all talk” and “no action.”
The president-elect also described Lewis’ district, which includes the Atlanta metro area, as “crime-infested.”
According to CNN, over two dozen democratic lawmakers intend to boycott President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.
