Matthew resumes motion towards Jamaica

Hurricane Matthew, because of its erratic movements has been making it quite difficult for weather forecasters to make accurate projections regarding the trajectory of the storm.

As of 5 am this morning (October 2), computer generated models predicted the storm would move further away from Jamaica towards Haiti before making landfall on Cuba on Tuesday.

However projections less than 12 hours later are now predicting the massive storm to move towards the northwest, bringing more of the hurricane over Jamaica.

The slow moving storm’s (currently 5 mph) northwestward motion is expected to continue through Sunday night.

Forecasters are expecting the Eastern section of the island to begin to feel storm force winds and heavy rains at approximately 2 am on Monday.

Matthew remains a very powerful Category 4 storm with sustained winds of approximately 145 mph.

Extensive flooding is expected with the passage of the storm and the Met Service has advised small craft operators to remain in safe harbour until all warning messages have been lifted and wind and sea conditions return to normal.
