One Love: Bob Marley Musical to Receive UK Premiere in 2017

A theatrical production titled “One Love: The Bob Marley Musical” is currently slated to make its staged in the UK next year.

The production which will be based on the reggae icon’s life and music will premiere at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in 2017.

It tells the story of a reggae singer turned into global icon, who must try to help unite his homeland Jamaica on the brink of a civil war.

The show has been written and directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah and is an updated version of his show Marley, which was staged in Baltimore in 2015.

  

Bob’s daughter Cedella Marley expressed her approval for the chosen premiere site stating 

‘With its great mix of cultures, it’s a city [Birmingham] where my father performed to audiences that were captivated by his presence, and we have no doubt that telling the story through music to a new generation in Birmingham will be part of his continuing legacy.’

The performance will feature some of Marley’s most popular songs such as Redemption Song, No Woman No Cry and Jammin’.
