Gayle Says Heart Surgery Made Him Realise the Importance of Life
Chris Gayle is regarded as one of the most explosive batsmen alive.
The prolific Jamaican cricketer and West Indies opener who has been labelled a ‘party-animal’ oftentimes gives the impression that he lives a rather carefree lifestyle.
However during a recent interview, he got a bit personal and revealed a little of his emotional side.
In 2005, during a West Indies tour of Australia, Gayle underwent an operation to fix a hole in his heart, a fact that was not revealed to his parents until after the procedure.
According to Gayle, it was after the procedure was carried out that he realised the importance of life.
During the launch of his autobiography “Six Machine” at New Delhi, he said “Nobody knows that I was diagnosed with a hole in my heart in Australia, not even my parents. I was forced to undergo a surgery and I only informed my parents after the procedure”.
“Back then, I realised the importance of life. It was a life changing moment for me. Thereafter I decided to enjoy my life to the fullest and I am still doing so,” he also stated.
Describing the book, Gayle stated: “While playing cricket and off the field I am doing a lot of entertainment but my book will give an insight into my life, my childhood, my struggle. Most people haven’t seen the other side of Chris Gayle.
