Jamaica Advances to Both 4x100m Relay Finals – Rio Games
Earlier today (august 18), Jamaica’s men’s 4x100m relay team finished second in their heat to earn a spot in the final for the event at the Rio Olympic Games currently underway in Rio de Janeiro,Brazil.
The team, comprised of Jevaughn Minzie, Asafa Powell, Nickel Ashmeade and Kemar Bailey-Cole clocked 37.94s to finish behind the Japanese team which clocked 37.68.
Team USA, comprised of Mike Rodgers, Christian Coleman, Tyson Gay, and Jarrion Lawson, registered the fastest time of the two heats, crossing the line with a season-best performance of 37.65 seconds.
Jamaica’s women’s 4x100m relay team also qualified for the final of that event.
The women’s team comprised of Simone Facey, Sashalee Forbes, Veronica Campbell-Brown, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce clocked 41.93.
Britain’s team (41.93) was second, and Ukraine’s team (42.49), finished third.
Team USA was initially disqualified after dropping the baton in Heat 2.
However, following an appeal, Team USA has been granted another opportunity to qualify for the Women’s 4x100m Relay final.
In a rather unusual scenario, they will run alone tonight to qualify by time.
