Happy Birthday to the World’s Fastest Man
The world’s fastest man – Usain Bolt turns 31 today and in the three decades he has been on earth, he has accomplished many mind boggling feats.
He has been named World Athlete of the Year by the IAAF six times and has received the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award on four occasions.
At the 2002 world junior championships, in front of a crowd of 36,000 at the national stadium, Bolt—just 15 years old at the time—won gold in the 200 metres, becoming the youngest-ever male world junior champion in any event.
He later improved the junior (age 19 and under) 200-metre world record to 20.13 sec, and at the age of 17, he covered said distance in 19.93 seconds, becoming the first teenager to break 20 second barrier in the race.
He is now the holder of 9 Olympic gold medals and just recently became the first person in history to complete the ‘triple-triple’ by winning gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay events at three consecutive Olympic Games.
Bolt’s popularity blew up in a major way in 2008 after he became the first man in Olympic history to win both the 100-metre and 200-metre races in record times.
Four years later, he won another 3 gold medals at the Olympic Games held in London. There he completed the men’s 100-meter race in 9.63 seconds, a new Olympic record, making him the first man in history to set three world records in Olympic competition.
At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Bolt once again won gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x10om relay events.
Bolt holds world records in the 100m – 9.58s, 200m – 19.19s and was a part of the Jamaican 4x100m relay team that set the new world record for that event (36.84s) at London’s Olympic Games.
He celebrates his birthday on the final day of the Rio Olympics which he says will be his last.
Bolt has stated that he intends to retire from athletics after the 2017 World Championships.
Happy Birthday Sir Bolt 🙂
