Elaine Thompson Wins Women’s 200m Final – Rio Games

Just moments ago Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson defied the odds to defeat the heavily favoured Dutch athlete – Dafne Schippers in the final of the women’s 200m at the Olympic Games currently underway in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Running in lane 6, Thompson exploded out of the blocks and did just enough to keep Schippers at bay to claim gold in a time of 21.78s.

Schippers earned silver in 21.88s while American athlete Tori Bowie was third in 22.15s.

Ivorian athlete Marie-Josee Ta Lou was fourth in 22.21s.

Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith came in 5th in 22.31s, marginally ahead of Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago who clocked 22.34s.

American athlete Deejah Steven was 7th  in 22.65s and Ivet Lalova-Collio of Bulgaria finished last with a time of 22.69s.
