“I’m Here to Win” Says Bolt Ahead of London Anniversary Games

Usain Bolt has not officially competed since July 1 when a hamstring injury forced him to withdraw from the national Olympic trials.

Today (July 22), the entire world will be watching attentively as the world’s fastest man runs in his first 200-metre of the year at the London Muller Anniversary Games.

The run is particularly important because it will give the world an idea of his fitness ahead of the all important races in Rio next month.

Bolt recently addressed his recent injury via the IAAF website:

“I did have a strain, so if I had competed I would have probably torn the hamstring really bad. My hamstring is good and I have no issues right now. The doctor worked his usual magic on my hamstring, so it’s all good. Training has been going well and I’m here to win, so that’s my focus.”

“I need to do a  200-metre because I’ve not done one yet,” he added. “I was disappointed not to run one at the trials and I need the races,” he stated.

“The 200-metre is my favourite event and I am looking forward to my first of the season. I know I’m in good shape, so it’s just about execution now. I’m ready to run a fast time,” said Bolt.

Bolt will compete against fellow Jamaican athlete Nickel Ashmeade, who placed second at the Jamaica Senior Championship and Alonzo Edwards, the Panamanian who had victories in two Diamond League races this season.
