Jamaica’s Top Performing Cape (Pre-University) Schools – 2016
EducateJamaica.org has provided The Jamaican Blogs™ with its CAPE Pre-University Rankings for 2016.
This ranking highlights the CAPE institutions that are doing the best at the top 3 levels of the grade scale (QUALITY SCORES).
It is worth noting that grades 4 and 5 were not factored in the measurement for this ranking as Educate Jamaica believes this is a “race to the bottom”.
Instead, the focus is placed on highlighting schools that are generating excellent results at grades 1, 2 and 3 (QUALITY SCORES).
Educate Jamaica states:
“We are helping parents identify the 6th form schools (pre-university) that are doing well, so that they are able to make a more informed choice as to which sixth form to send their child/children. Universities are becoming more and more competitive and the number of places on many of the courses are very limited. Your quality score may be the differentiator and ultimately the decider as to whether or not you get unto that course.”
These latest results might come as a surprise to many and prove that no school can afford to take a lackadaisical approach to educating students.
Prominent schools that traditionally earned the best results in CSEC and CAPE are now being outperformed by others with less prestige.
Montego Bay High School For Girls dethrones Campion college in this year’s ranking.
Campion College is 2nd, Mannings High 3rd, Decarteret College 4 and St Andrew High School For Girls 5th.
Immaculate Conception continues to do well but falls three places to 6th from last year.
This ranking highlights the institutions that are performing at the top grade levels of 1, 2 and 3 in CAPE and was measured using the Percentage of pupils obtaining 2 or more subjects (UNITS) with grades 1-3 (I-III) in the 2015 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE).
