Bolt Among Highest Paid Athletes Globally – Over $4 Billion in Earnings (Forbes)
The world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, with earnings of USD $32.5m (roughly JMD $4,082,650,000) has been listed as one of the 100 Highest Paid Athletes in the world by Forbes.
Forbes estimates Bolt has earned $30 million in endorsements and another $2.5 million from his achievements on the track.
At number 32 on the list, Bolt is sandwiched between Harden of the Houston Rockets ($32.8 M) and MLB star Clayton Kershaw who earned $32 million.
Star footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi claim the top two spots following boxer Floyd Mayweather’s fairly recent retirement.
Ronaldo, fresh off the heels of leading Real Madrid to a record 11th UEFA Champions League title, sits atop the list with $88 million in earnings. Forbes estimates Ronaldo earned $56 million in salary and $32 million in endorsements.
Messi, who helped lead Barcelona to yet another La Liga crown, sits in second with $81.4 million of which $53.4M was from his salary and $28m from endorsements.
LeBron James, NBA star and Cleveland Cavaliers forward is third on the list and is the highest ranked American with earnings of $77.2 million.
Roger Federer, the 17 time Grand Slam winner is 4th with $67.8 million followed by Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant who earned $56.2 million.
The top 10 is completed by Novak Djokovic $55.8m, Cam Newton $53.1m, Phil Mickelson $52.9m, Jordan Spieth $52.8m and now retired LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant who earned $50 million in the final year of a highly successful 20 year NBA career.
The two women who made the list are Serena Williams with $28.9 million, (40th) and Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova, at 88th with earnings of $21.9 million.
