Man Might Be Freed of Sex Abuse Charge Because Girl Lied About Her Age
A man who is charged with having sexual relations with a child under the age of 16 will soon learn his fate when he returns to court today (Jan 11).
According to Loop News, the defence attorney for the accused man informed the court that he had in his possession an authentic copy of the complainant’s birth certificate which showed that she was 18 years old at the time.
However, when Justice Shelly-Ann Williams inquired of Madam Counsel Milwood-Moore about this particular bit of evidence, she was told that checks needed to be made to confirm the authenticity of the document.
It was also outlined that neither the complainant nor her mother could be located since the discrepancies regarding their claims as to the complainant’s age were revealed.
“Your honour this is a open and shut case and should not have reached here. The complainant is not 16 and they blatantly lied in their statements and when I crossed examined them and the truth was revealed they ran into hiding. My client should be freed,” attorney Townsend outlined.
