Reggae Boyz Fall Five Places in Latest FIFA Rankings
After recently losing 3-2 at home to Nicaragua in a crucial world qualifier, Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz have fallen five places in the latest FIFA rankings.
In the rankings released on Thursday (October 1), Jamaica now sits in 57th place, from 52nd in last month’s rankings.
Earlier this year, Jamaica made one of the biggest moves up the rankings after they finished second in the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament behind Mexico.
That success led to the Reggae Boyz being described by FIFA as this year’s “surprise package”.
But Nicaragua has also been surprisingly good on the football field.
This year, they won four consecutive international matches before defeating Jamaica at Independence Park.
Though Jamaica did just enough to register a 2-0 victory against Nicaragua in the return leg in Managua, the defeat at home proved costly, thus resulting in the downward movement in the rankings.
Mexico remains the top ranked CONCACAF team at 27th while the USA trails at 29th.
