Fort Lauderdale, Florida – October 21, 2015 – All past students of Hillside, Water Valley, Orange Hill, Robins Bay and Martins Primary schools in Islington, St. Mary are invited to join the not-for-profit work of the United Districts of Islington Inc.

(UDI), an organization set up to provide education- and health- based support to individuals and facilities in their local communities.

In its short three-year history, the organization has provided educational scholarships to deserving children and donated textbooks and reading material to school libraries.

Four of five targeted primary schools have received their requested quota of text books; two high school students have been awarded annual tuition scholarships; and others have received transportation and/or lunch money support.

One basic school has received toys and children’s books and is about to gain annual support through the Project for the Advancement of Childhood Education (PACE) program based on the organization’s request through a sponsor.

In an effort to continue its mission, UDI will host its third major fund raising event on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Rodeway Inn and Suites in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Billed as a reunion dinner and dance, the event hopes to attract patronage from persons with roots in one or more of the 37 districts within the Islington community, whether they live at home or abroad.

“I have been invited to join many organizations in the past but I was drawn to this one because of the passion of the core team and the tangible results of their efforts”, said Everol Dennis, a UDI member and active volunteer. “It’s reflected in the smiles on the teacher’s faces; the look of delight in the children’s eyes when they receive new books and educational toys; and in the heartfelt thank you letters we receive from parents and principals.”

The organization encourages everyone who has lived in the area to give back to the districts that nurtured so many of its members, in meaningful ways.

UDI aims to further its goals in 2016 and also assist the Islington Health Center with basic medical supplies. Persons are encouraged to attend the event, make a donation and join the organization. Tickets cost US$75 and the event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
