Jamaican Man Wins One of the Most Prestigious Literary Awards in the World!
A Jamaican man by the name of Marlon James has created history by becoming the first person from the island to win the prestigious Man Booker Prize.
The Man Booker Prize for Fiction is a literary prize awarded each year for the best original novel, written in the English language, and published in the United Kingdom.
The prize is of tremendous significance because winners of the Man Booker Prize are usually assured to gain international renown and success.
He won the prize for his novel which was inspired by the attempt to kill Bob Marley in the 1970s and also reggae music.
As the winner, he also received £50,000 in prize money.
Michael Wood, chair of the judges, described his 680-page-epic A Brief History of Seven Killings as the “most exciting” book of all the authors who were shortlisted to receive the coveted title.
