“I have been betrayed by my country Jamaica” Says Steve Mullings
Steve Mullings, a Jamaican former sprint athlete who specialized in the 100 and 200 metres events says he has been betrayed by his country.
In 2011, Mullings received a lifetime ban from the sport after failing two drug tests. He tested positive for Testosterone in 2004 and later tested positive for the masking agent Furosemide in 2011.
Mullings, now 32-years of age made some alarming comments via a lengthy post on the popular internet fundraising website GoFundMe.com.
The post titled “Justice for Steve Mullings” and published under the sprinter’s name, contains shocking remarks about officials of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA).
The document also alleges that Mulling’s failed drug tests were part of a conspiracy involving several JAAA officials and some athletes.
According to the sprinter he was being punished for choosing to attend college instead of signing a professional contract which would have seen the officials receive financial compensation.
Mulling also made mention of the difficulties he now faces because of the stigma associated with being labeled a cheat:
I have tried to get help from Jamaica, the International body and WADA but no one is responding.
I have lost everything; I am broke and unable to find employment because of the stigma attached to my name.
I struggle to buy food, pay rent and support my family.
I am not looking to run again for Jamaica again. All I want to do is clear my name so I can earn a living to take care of my wife and son.
I am appealing to WADA, IAAF, the prime minister of Jamaica, JADCO president Carey Brown and JAAA president Warren Blake for help. All I ask if that you take a second look at my case.
