Almost 100 Schools Affected By Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease
Nearly 100 schools in Jamaica have now been impacted by the recent outbreak of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease.
The Ministry of Health has reported that up to Thursday evening (October 1), 98 schools and over 300 hundred children have been affected.
This has resulted in the closure of eleven schools thus far.
The parish hardest hit by the outbreak is St. Catherine with over 150 children in 38 schools reporting symptoms of the highly contagious disease.
According to Health Minister, Dr. Fenton Ferguson, the majority of cases of hand-foot-and-mouth disease have been reported in St. Catherine, Kingston and St. Andrew.
