Hospitals Forced to Send Home Patients Amid Protests by Nurses
Hospitals have been sending home patients who are well enough to be released from care amid protests by public sector nurses.
According to the Gleaner, President of the Nurses’ Association of Jamaica (NAJ) , Janet Farr, says some hospitals made the decision as increasing numbers of nurses refused to attend work as the day progressed.
According to Farr, 4 out of 10 nurses scheduled for duty turned up for work at the Princess Margaret Hospital in St Thomas.
Farr also said no nurses showed up for the afternoon shift at the Kingston Public Hospital.
She says 90 per cent of the nurses scheduled to work this afternoon at the University Hospital of the West Indies in St Andrew did not turn up for work.
Farr said it was a similar situation at other hospitals across the country.
