The black, green and gold of Jamaica once again came out on top.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was as explosive as expected in the women’s 100 metres final at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing today.

With just a few strides Jamaica’s pocket rocket had put the race away, effectively separating herself from her competitors by some distance.

Running in lane 5, Fraser-Pryce earned gold with an impressive 10.76

Dutch athlete Dafne Schippers was also brilliant as her long strides saw her close in on Fraser-Pryce in the last 10 metres of the race to earn the silver medal with a time of 10.81 seconds.

Schippers’ time represents a new national record.

Tori Bowie of the United States was third with a time of 10.86 seconds.

Jamaican athletes Veronica Campbell-Brown and Natasha Morrison finished 4th and 7th with times of 10.91 and 11.02 seconds respectively.
