JPS: Customers to Pay Over 7 Percent Less For Electricity This Month

According to The Jamaica Public Service (JPS), customers will pay 7.11 percent less for electricity this month.

This is possible because of reduced fuel prices.

In a release yesterday the company stated: The fuel & IPP charge on bills for August is $14.47 per kilowatt hour (kWh), compared to the charge of $16.76 per kWh applied to July bills.

This means that the total cost per kWh of electricity has fallen from 27 US cents to 24 US cents or J$28.18.”

“Therefore, a customer who consistently uses 165 kWh per month will be paying $369.78 less for his bill this month, compared to what he paid last month. This customer will pay $4,830.10 for the 165 kWh of electricity used, as against the $5,199.88 that was paid in July for the same usage,” it also added.

The Fuel Charge on electricity bills changes each month, depending on the cost of the oil that JPS and other power generating companies buy to produce electricity. The charge has been positively impacted by lower fuel costs and improved efficiencies in the Company’s operations.
