Jamaican-Born Orphan Now Gearing Up to Represent Australia at World Championships (Video)

Alberto Campbell-Staines was born on the streets of Jamaica.
Malnourished as a baby, he was left with an intellectual disability.
Now 21 years of age, the former orphan is now gearing up to represent Australia in the 400m at the World Championships in Doha Qatar in October.
He is also on track to compete in the Paralympics which takes place next year.
Alberto’s touching story is truly marvelous.
It’s hard to fathom his achievements when you consider how his life started.
His story also shows the transformative powers of love, belief and encouragement.

Good job, Alberto. As the saying goes “Never give up, because, while there’s life, there’s hope”
Alberto, you have our support. Your story is so motivating. Thanks for blessing us with your story: Washington DC Crew
i am sure britian have more gun filled slums than one of its children called jamaica les they forget that jamaica is a product of britian and whatever we are good or bad they were the ones to carve our future
People sometimes say “it’s so good you rescued Alberto”. We respond by saying “he has rescued us” . Alberto has taught us so much about so many things; courage, faith, love, worship, the list could go on. To watch him run is to see a true act of worship to his God, a miracle in action. He is the bravest young man I know. When we lived in Jamaica, the people were so supportive of our family, never questioning us. We once had a man come up to us in the street, at Half Way Tree, and say rather loudly “dis pickney your son?”. Not knowing quite what to do I said “yes, he is our son”. The man responded “tank you for loving one of ours, bless you” It was a given; we were a family God has brought together. We have so many wonderful Jamaican friends from our time living in Jamaica. Alberto continues to be a proud Jamaican and we consider ourselves as adopted Jamaicans, even if Alberto stills laughs at my accent when I try to speak patois! The Jamaican flag always flies at our house on race days! Thank you everyone for your kind words and support.
