Bolt Completely Dismisses Suggestions That He’s “Afraid” of Gatlin

The world’s fastest man has dismissed suggestions he is scared to face in-form American sprinter Justin Gatlin.

Bolt has taken it easy after being plagued by injuries last year. In recent times Gatlin has run some incredible times in both the 100m and 200m sprints clocking 9.75 and 19.68 seconds respectively.

Following his impressive times he also declared himself “the man to beat”.

A highly anticipated showdown involving the two sprinters is scheduled to take place in the World Championships in Beijing this August along with other hot contenders such as Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay.

Currently in New York for the Diamond League Grand Prix meeting, Bolt stated:

“Afraid? When people say that, I laugh”.

“I’ve been in the sport for years and I’ve never dodged anybody. When it matters, I’ve always showed up and shown that I’m the best,”.

“Gatlin has been doing a lot of talking, saying a lot of things. He’s proved he’s running fast times and he’s ready. So it should be exciting going into the World Championships.

“I look forward to competing when people talk… because if you don’t back it up you look really stupid.”

“Justin is running good, Tyson (Gay) is running good, Asafa (Powell) is running good, Usain is running good. So when we come to the championship, it’s going to be like an explosion”, he also added.
