28-Year-Old Kingston Man Steals Over A Dozen Phones Used By Obama’s Security Personnel
It has been revealed that an employee of the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston stole over a dozen phones used by the US Secret Service during an official visit by the POTUS last month.
According to the Observer, knowledge of the theft, which occurred a day after Obama left the island on April 9, and the subsequent arrest of the 28-year-old employee was not made public until he appeared in court last Monday.
The man remained behind bars from his arrest until Monday when he was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment.
Fortunately for the man, his sentence was suspended for two years meaning he will only serve prison time if he commits a crime within those two years.
The man was charged with simple larceny after confessing to police that he stole 15 Nokia 106 cellphones from a room on the 12th floor of the hotel that should have been secured.
After completing their duties on the island, president Obama’s Secret Service agents left the phones on a table in a locked room which should have remained off limits until April 11 when US embassy workers would collect them.
A subsequent inventory revealed that 15 phones were missing after they were picked up.
The employee reportedly told police investigators: “Bwoy, officer, mi find the phones at mi workplace. Mi work a Pegasus”.
He then brought the police to his residence where he handed over three of the cell phones.
Eight of the 15 phones were eventually recovered. Three from the man’s mother and five from his co-workers, police said.

He “found” phones that were not lost? It’s like somebody coming in your house and “finding” money you put on a table. Even if it was on the floor, it still does not belong to anyone else…..and here we thought the visit went well and now we know you can’t even trust the hotel employees anywhere…..disgraceful.
