Jamaican-Born Woman Honoured Among the Best Principals in the Philadelphia School District
Many Jamaicans continue to lead truly exemplary lives in various fields overseas.
Jamaican-born principal Dr. Karren Dunkley was one of seven leaders recently honoured as being among the best principals in the Philadelphia School District in the United States.
Dunkley migrated to the United States where she attended St. John’s University.
She along with six other principals were winners of the prestigious Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation’s Distinguished Principal Award, which carries a $20,000 stipend for her school.
Despite her arduous job as principal at at Parkway Center City High School, Dunkley has managed to attract partnerships with universities and organizations that help prepare students for college and deal with social and emotional needs.
Demand for her school continues to rise.
This year, 3,000 students applied for a place in the school’s freshman class that has only 150 seats.
Truly great stuff!
