Hundreds Flock to Health Centres in Wake of Riverton Blaze

According to the Health Ministry, over 600 persons have have already visited health facilities seeking aid after being affected by smoke from the Riverton dump.

Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr. Marion Bullock Ducasse provided an update on the situation during a press briefing yesterday afternoon in Kingston.

Dr. Bullock Ducasse says 5 health facilities in Kingston and St. Catherine were opened on Saturday to treat persons affected by the smoke. Two more health centres were opened yesterday.

She also stated that up to mid-day yesterday the health centres recorded 642 visits.

  

Additional supplies have been distributed to the health facilities.

Though five days have elapsed since the fire started authorities have still not determined the level of chemicals being inhaled by persons affected by the smoke.
