Could Juror Selection Result in Vybz Kartel’s Conviction Being Overturned?
There are many persons who still believe that incarcerated entertainer Vybz Kartel did not receive a fair trial.
In a shocking new development, it has been revealed that one of the jurors who served in his murder trial admitted that he works with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).
According to the Gleaner, the juror, Dennis Brown, made the shocking disclosure in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court as he gave evidence in the corruption trial of Livingston Cain, the juror accused of trying to bribe his peers to return not guilty verdicts in the Kartel case.
At the same time Cain’s attorney, Valerie Neita-Robertson, also suggested that another man who “works” with the JDF – identified in court as Gutzmore Lord – and the wife of a police inspector, were also part of the Vybz Kartel jury.
The Jury Act stipulates that officers and non-commissioned officers as well as regular and reserve members of the JDF are barred from serving as jurors.
While acknowledging, during cross-examination, that he is an “artisan supervisor” with the army, Brown maintained that he is a civilian.
Persons who are involved in law enforcement usually have a much deeper understanding of the law than regular civilians and are rightfully barred from serving as jurors.
If these shocking admissions are proven true, it would mean that at least three jurors who helped to determine Kartel’s fate were affiliated with law enforcement agencies in some way.
This new information could significantly bolster Vybz Kartel’s chances of having his conviction overturned or at the very least help him to secure a retrial.

This maybe cause for a mistrial. Like I said before, even if this guy commited this morning, the prosecution case was weak and so I would have not have convicted him.
If this is true this whole case needs to be retried. They were too many holes in the prosecutions case in the first place.
