J’can Born Man and Wife Get 15 Year Prison Sentence in the US
A Jamaican-born man and his wife have been handed a 15 year sentence in federal prison for tax fraud.
According to a report from The Dallas Morning News, Jacqueline and Gladstone Morrison were sentenced Friday in Fort Worth, Texas by U.S. District Judge John McBryde.
The sentence of 187 months, although steep for a tax preparation fraud case, was below the sentencing guidelines in the case that ranged from 262 months to 327 months.
The judge also ordered the couple to pay almost US $18 million in restitution.
After they wed in 2004, the Morrisons opened Jacqueline Morrison & Associates in 2005 and ran it successfully until a federal warrant was issued to shut it down in 2010.
They were convicted at trial last October after being charged with 17 counts alleging tax evasion and fraud.
