Jamaican sprinter and the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt described rumoured proposals to remove the 200m from Olympic competition as ‘ridiculous.’
The 200m is Bolt’s favourite event so it should come as a surprise to no one that he views any plans to remove it from the Olympic calendar as absurd.
According to a post by Yahoo Sport Bolt stated: “Normally I’m not a controversial person but I think that’s just stupid. Personally, track and field is the highlight of the Olympics every edition, that’s not even a question. So when you’re going to try to take events away from the track and field event, it is just ridiculous and I don’t think the IAAF should stand for that at all”.
The report claimed an Australian newspaper mentioned that the 200m was among the events which could be removed to make room for other sports.
The International Olympic Committee said any move if confirmed would take place in 2020, by which time Bolt should be retired.
