Major Decline in Chik V cases according to JDMA
According to RJR News, reports are emerging of major declines in cases of the Chikungunya Virus in Jamaica.
The Ministry of Health said it expected a slowdown in the outbreak of the mosquito borne virus this month.
According to the Jamaica Medical Doctors Association, JMDA, the number of new cases is far less than predicted despite the virus spreading to western parishes:
The Health Ministry last month reported a significant decline in Chik V cases in eastern parishes, including St. Thomas, Kingston and St. Andrew as well as St. Catherine.
The JMDA President says two factors have resulted in the decline in Chik V cases in Jamaica.
These include what he describes as herd immunity and the clean up campaign.
